Scouts plan a barbie

BARTON'S 3rd Barton Scout Group will be showing off their new mess tent at their ‘end of term’ barbecue next week.

Leader John Pullen said donations from var-

ious groups and organi-

sations, such as the

Rotary Club, Town

Council and the Lodge,

had helped pay for the

£1,000 tent and repres-

entatives had been invi

ted to the barbecue to

see it first hand.

"Most of our tents are

secondhand and I'm

sure some of them saw

service in the last war

so we started fundraisi-

ng for this new mess tent," he said.

"We thought the barb-

ecue would be an ideal

opportunity to show off

the new tent," he went

on.

The 3rd Barton Scouts

Cub group meets on

Monday evenings at

Bowmandale School

while the Scouts meet

the same evening at

Baysgarth School's fifth form common room.

And like many other

Such organisations the

group is desperate for

new leaders.

Mr Pullen said no pr-

evious scouting or gu-

iding experience was

necessary as full traini-

ng would be given over

a five year period.

"There is no need for

any experience as long

as people interested

pass the checking system," he went on.

"If they want to take

as long as five years it

would probably mean

one weekend a year

away training," he went on.
